Meet Katie

Katie Lam is the Member of Parliament for the Weald of Kent.

The Weald of Kent was a brand new constituency in the July 2024 General Election, and Katie was elected as its first ever MP. One of the largest constituencies in the South East of England, the Weald of Kent is a truly rural patch of Britain’s most beautiful countryside. The area covers the towns of Tenterden and Cranbrook as well as well over 100 villages across three borough councils (Ashford, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells) and 56 civil parishes.

She is a Shadow Home Office minister and Opposition Assistant Whip.

Before Parliament, Katie worked in senior roles in government: in the Home Office, she focused on national security (counter terrorism, MI5 oversight and serious organised crime); and in 10 Downing Street, she served as Deputy Chief of Staff and head of the Prime Minister’s Business Team. She also set up and ran the Office for Talent and the Office for Investment.

Katie spent the rest of her career in the private sector. She was Chief of Staff at AI company Faculty, one of the UK’s fastest growing tech businesses, and before that spent the bulk of her career at Goldman Sachs, first in equity research, and later leading teams running various projects, analysis and operations internally.

Katie is a Governor at Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children and was a Trustee of the Ivors Academy Trust. She is also an award-winning lyricist and scriptwriter.

Katie (and her golden retriever, Bailey!) live in the Weald.
